To help those implementing, or considering implementing, PREMIS in METS the author (working at Statistics New Zealand) designed a tool consisting of a checklist. This checklist presents and provides examples of 13 key PREMIS METS issues that implementers should consider documenting in a METS profile when designing or revisiting a metadata strategy. Each of the points in the checklist is followed by a discussion and one or more examples from METS profiles registered by institutions such as the National Library of Australia, University of Illinois, University of California San Diego, and the University of Southampton.

This tool allows users to quickly benefit from a significant body of PREMIS-METS experience by consolidating a wide range of PREMIS-METS knowledge otherwise scattered. Relevant for AV-archivists who want to achieve greater interoperability and consider to apply PREMIS-in-METS practices.
